Cartographic collection - selected objects

Zbiór kartograficzny przechowywany w zasobie Archiwum Narodowego w Krakowie to cenna i różnorodna kolekcja, która zawiera atlasy, mapy, plany i widoki miast z okresu XV – XXI w. W większości dotyczą one Krakowa i regionu Małopolski, ale można wśród nich znaleźć także wiele wartościowych materiałów dotyczących innych miast i regionów w Polsce i Europie. Do udziału w Hackathonie kulturowym Coding da Vinci Ost³ 2022 wybraliśmy 27 widoków i planów. Oprócz Krakowa, są na nich przedstawione małe miasta i miasteczka, takie jak Olkusz czy Krosno oraz większe, o dużym znaczeniu historycznym, jak Poznań, Elbląg czy Toruń. Osobno reprezentowane są znane wszystkim piękne miasta europejskie (i nie tylko): Ryga, Wenecja, Moskwa, Konstantynopol, czy Isfahan. Część wybranych widoków przedstawia pola bitewne.
Spośród wielu przechowywanych w naszym Archiwum archiwaliów zdecydowaliśmy się wybrać właśnie te obiekty, bo pokazują one przeszłość w kolorowy i dynamiczny sposób. Patrząc na nie łatwo wyobrazić sobie prezentowane sceny, ludzi czy obiekty. Zdecydowanie warto przyjrzeć się zawartym w nich szczegółom. Mogą nas one zaskoczyć i na dłużej przyciągnąć naszą uwagę, przekazując wiele informacji o przeszłości.
The Cartographic collection stored in the holdings of the National Archives in Krakow is a valuable and diverse collection, which includes atlases, maps, plans and city views from the 15th to the 21st century. They mostly concern Krakow and the Malopolska region, but there are also many valuable materials concerning other cities and regions in Poland and Europe. We have selected 27 views and plans to participate in the Coding da Vinci Ost³ 2022 Culture Hackathon. Apart from Krakow, they feature small cities and towns, such as Olkusz or Krosno, as well as larger ones of great historical importance, such as Poznań, Elbląg or Toruń. Separately represented are the beautiful European (and not only) cities known to all: Riga, Venice, Moscow, Constantinople or Isfahan. Some selected views show battlefields.
Out of many collections kept in our Archives, we decided to choose these objects, because they show the past in a colourful and dynamic way. Looking at them, it is easy to imagine the scenes, people or objects presented. It is definitely worth looking at the details they contain. They may surprise us and attract our attention for a longer time, giving us a lot of information about the past.
